  1. I purchased this item to hold my Magellan Maestro 4250 GPS and it would not expand enough to hold it. Just too small.

  2. I purchased this mount for my Motorola Droid, to use with the new Google Maps Navigation. Installation was easy, though the instructions are very vague. The swivel works well, and was easy for me to position to suit me. The adjustable nature of the mount means that I can have the phone in the mount, and still have easy access to the charging port and headphone jack. It is easy to insert and remove the phone. It does feel a little flimsy, and I think the button to expand the side holders may wear out over time. Also, it doesn’t expand quite far enough to hold the Droid in landscape position. This isn’t a deal-breaker, though. All in all, I’m pretty satisfied for $14, instead of Verizon’s $30 mount.

  3. I recently bought the above item from Amazon. I thought it was perfect for my need – which was using it for holding my GPS unit inside the car. I use Garmin Nuvi 350. The problem is that I am not able to connect the GPS to a charger and mount it on the holder at the same time. Unless I am missing something, there does not seem to be an inlet for the charger. That is a spoiler because on long road trips, the GPS charge depletes fully and you can’t mount this thing any longer.

  4. Using this to mount my Palm Pre to the air vent in my car for when I want to use the Pre’s GPS. This provides a solid and secure mount, and it fits the Pre nicely. It’s also quick and easy to attach and detach the Pre once you’ve done the initial installation of the vent bracket.

This kit includes several mounting options, but I’m using the vent mount. I like the use of spring brackets for connecting to a vent as they are much easier to remove than clip-on brackets should you ever want to completely remove the mount. I removed them a couple times when trying to find the best place to put the mount. I’ve read several reviews of other mounts that mention the clip-on brackets snapping off. The other mounting options are to use the included 3M removable tape, use the included adapter plate & screws to attach to a different mount, or attach the main body to another T-Notch compatible device.

A key feature here is the 360 degree ball mount which lets me angle the mount so that the Pre faces towards me even though the vent faces forward, and allows me angle it to minimize glare on the screen from the sun. Make sure that the ball mount is shown on the back of the package as I’ve read elsewhere that some people who bought this got one that did not include this mount. Even if you buy a different mount, I’d make sure that it has a ball attachment as this feature is so useful.

When not using the GPS, it is simple to remove the main body of the Grip-iT (that holds the Pre) so that only the small mounting bracket is left on the vent. There is at least one other manufacturer that sells a similar vent mount (doesn’t have rotating ball), and it has a holder that is built specifically for the Pre. The reason I didn’t go with this other manufacturer is because unlike the Grip-iT adjustable body, it will not fit the Pre if the Pre has a protective case on it.

  5. I was looking for a mount for my iPhone 3GS since I use GPS applications or Traffic information while traveling. When I saw that this device can accomodate for almost any sized electronic gadget, I knew this was the perfect solution.

The unit is constructed of a hard black plastic. The cradle is padded and has a rotating base to adjust for landscape or portrait mode. The bottom of the unit gives further stability. Removal of the device is easy (just push the button on the bottom right hand corner and the ‘arms open’). Because of the bottom supports, there is free access to plug my iPhone to my cigarette lighter.

Instructions are somewhat confusing and many installation options are available. Attaching this mount takes great care but is easy enough.

The phone stays secure while driving and certainly allows me to keep my eyes on the road.

Overall, this is a great accessory to mount the iPhone through the air conditioning vent. Two thumbs up!
