ARKON GN042 Garmin Nuvi 8.5-Inch Windshield Suction Gooseneck Mount with 17mm Ball Head

I got this when I got my nuvi760 because I have a deep dashboard and figured (rightly) that the supplied mount would be too short. It was easy to bend the goose neck and use the swivel neck to get just the configuration I needed. So I THINK this is a fine piece of problem-solving equipment. But I never did actually mount it because I suddenly realized I had a shallow covered compartment in my dashboard (I never used for anything) that is ideal for putting the bean-baq mount into and keeping it perfectly stable. Ah well! I’m still sure the ARKON is a good deal for the money.
This is one product I would highly recommand to anyone that has a deep or sloping dash board it makes programing the gps easier to do and I am buying another one for my van
As many here attest, this is the unit that should have been supplied with the Garmin GPS.
I’ve tried various types of mounts: the vent mount and the beanbag mount. The vent clips had a tenacious attachment to the vent fins. Even the smallest beanbag mount was cumbersome.
This gooseneck unit is small enough to take with me or stuff into the glove compartment when not in use. It comes with the gooseneck mount, a 3″ mounting disk, and one alcohol prep pad.
From the photo, I thought this was going to be “flexible” as in the wimpy sort of flexible on my gooseneck desk lamps. When I tried to flex it, it felt practically unbendable. I thought Arkon made a mistake and put a normal straight steel rod inside.
Then I read the directions. You have to use both hands to bend the inner rod in the tube. After you mount this to the windshield, you cannot rebend the gooseneck easily with one hand. And that’s a good thing because the rigidity keeps it from bouncing. You can make horizontal adjustments by loosening the nut. The suction cup has plenty of suction at 2-3/4″ in diameter, compared to the Garmin’s 2-1/4″.
Now I can actually reach the GPS screen, and it’s at proper eye level. Excellent little device.
Bought this 3 months back to mount my Garmin Nuvi 5000. The mount is long and flexible so you can make your unit just the way you want it to be. The suction is good & it’s sticky.
Recommended mount.
Great product. I bought the second one for my wife’s car after finding out it does indeed work well as advertised on my car. My original Garmin mount use to fall down everytime I left the car exposed in the sun. This one sticks like a leech. After my wife’s car new Garmin mount started falling down within 3 months of purchase, I knew what to do!
It is been almost six months since I bought mine and it is still sucking strong! Way to go guys.
